Veeam is (?) only for VMs?

Veeam is (?) only for VMs?

Today, I had a chat with a Veeam customer who was saying how great the product is when it comes to protecting traditional virtual machines, but when it comes to other things — like tape backups or plugins for Oracle applications and the like — it has issues or at least isn’t as solid. His take? “That’s not their core business, so they don’t invest in it.”

Veeam’s making us lazy!

Veeam’s making us lazy!

After some time I had to ask the creation of a few new VM for a new Veeam deployment at a customer’s site. It was time to see the calculators for the first time in 2025 here

Scenario Builder was new to me (no worries, as you can see previous versions are still available)

pretty modern and easy interface, allowing you to save your work for a later use.

S.E.: beware of Deep FAKE news

S.E.: beware of Deep FAKE news

I mentioned this intriguing stock CELESTICA a few days ago. On “Deep Fake News Monday” with headlines like “The free, clean Chinese AI running on an 8086 will bankrupt the United States” the stock took a significant hit… only to quickly recover almost all its losses.

Spreading such news today is incredibly easy, especially because the job of a journalist has become “push out news as quickly as possible; the more fake and click-worthy it is, the better.

S.E.: stay calm and deep (not seek)

Today is the day of deep-seek (no, I will not link it, I don’t support dictatorships), the “chinese AI that’s free, doesn’t need lot of energy and dedicated chips”.

this is causing an earthquake and the “bear” on many **NASDAQ **stocks, like Broadcom.

Remain calm, even if it seems to be working. Democracies cannot relay on an AI which executes orders from XI.

S.E.: a surprising HW IT Stock

S.E.: a surprising HW IT Stock

Another interesting, suprising success story is about this producer: CELESTICA. The suprise is that an hardware vendor can still be profitable in the age of “software defined everything”.

I got this in September too, for 52 USD. Now it’s flying over 120 USD. I think, it’s worth to be kept in our basket, not to be sold. If you bought it for a low price, compared to the current one, it’s also probably wise to use the “Stop Loss” feature of your home banking to be sure to sell it before your earning evaporate.

S.E.: an interesting IT Stock

S.E.: an interesting IT Stock

In September I bought some stock of this: TWILIO. It’s a company providing services for better, advanced communications with the customers.

I got the stocks at 57 USD more or less. In January it was almost stable around 100–110 USD, and on 24th January it jumped close to 140 USD.

I’m pretty sad I don’t have enough firepower to fully exploit these good opportunities ;-(

Desktop without Windows 11…

Desktop without Windows 11…

For a while now, my personal PC, originally running Windows 10, had been acting up with some software issues. Despite its solid hardware, Microsoft decided not to let me upgrade to Windows 11 (apparently my Ryzen processor is just one generation short of meeting the requirements — thanks a lot, Microsoft 🙄).

So, I gave Ubuntu a shot, but for some reason, the installation kept failing. At that point, I started wondering if the issues I’d seen before were hardware-related rather than just software glitches.

S.E.: Musk Intel affair

S.E.: Musk Intel affair

There are rumors, albeit very faint at the moment, that Intel might end up, more or less indirectly, in Musk’s hands. The latter is “quite” close to the U.S. government, and Intel is a crucial U.S. tech company (thanks in part to the work of our Federico Faggin). If this acquisition were to go through, it could lead to an increase in Intel’s stock value.

S.E.: MPS buys Mediobanca?

S.E.: MPS buys Mediobanca?

This morning, news broke that the historic Italian bank MPS, which was in serious trouble until just a few years ago, plans to acquire **Mediobanca **through a Public Exchange Offer (**OPS **in italian).

I bought a small amount; some friends who are more experienced than me are skeptical, but for now, the shares are rising a bit. What will happen in the coming days or weeks?

Stock Exchange: Seekingalpha

Stock Exchange: Seekingalpha

About a year ago, I did something that seemed a bit silly at the time: I paid $500 to access this service:

Seeking Alpha Alpha Picks — Current Picks.

This company provides a portfolio of stocks to follow, predicting good results — where “good” means “our portfolio outperforms the S&P 500.”

I have to say, the investment has more than paid for itself. I’ll just mention a couple of the stocks they recommended: APPLOVIN and BRINKER.
