Remote worker’s nightmare…

Remote worker’s nightmare…

As many of my contacts know, I really hate the so-called *Smartworking *in Full-Remote (I name it **Loneworking **instead).

One of many cons comes when your Company is four-hours-trip away and your PC does not start.

what if the issue is not resolvable (take a look here for the solution) and you have some critical task scheduled for the day?

Maybe a spare PC could be a reasonable B-plan for far *Loneworkers *;-)

Simple PowerCLI script to increase virtual disk size of a list of VMs

Simple PowerCLI script to increase virtual disk size of a list of VMs

I will have to increase the virtual disk size of some Horizon Full Clone VMs (*) so I asked a friend ;-) to write a script that asks the list and increase the size of the first virtual disk of 15 GBytes. I tested it in my lab and it works fine (never use AI generated programs without testing them! Use at your own risk anyway).

Veeam documentation, search engines and AI

Veeam documentation, search engines and AI

Once upon a time I had wonderful hair and Veeam was able to backup VM on VMware and HyperV. Now Veeam has enhanced itself a lot and has a **HUGE **portfolio of products.

When I’m asked “are you a Veeam expert?”  I answer “nowadays Veeam is like surgery: a single surgeon can’t do everything”.

It’s a little bit of an overstatement. But unless you only work with Veeam products (not so common in Italy, I guess), it’s really difficult to be ready for any question a customer asks.

S.E.: Black? ROTFL

S.E.: Black Monday? ROTFL

Every time the stock market drops, newspapers go with headlines like “Hundreds of billions wiped out!” Hey guys, have you figured out yet that to make money you need to buy low and sell high?

Considering the morality of the criminal duo that has tragically taken control of the Union, it’s highly likely they’re deliberately sabotaging the markets to benefit their accomplices who are buying in. Then one day, they’ll just say “just kidding,” and by then, they will have robbed you blind, dear Americans who made the tragic mistake of handing them your country.

Veeam MFA and Four Eyes: caution!

Veeam MFA and Four Eyes: caution!

“I won’t cover the ‘how-to’ stuff, the manual’s pretty clear on that, and the procedures are straightforward.

Man links: Four Eyes, MFA, configuration backup.

I just want to emphasize the risks that doing these operations too casually can bring. These configurations are for limiting unauthorized access (MFA) and preventing unauthorized or incorrect dangerous activities (Four Eyes).

So, it’s quite likely that a wrong configuration could stop us from operating correctly on the Veeam server or even lock us out completely. Before messing with these settings, it’s highly recommended to:

S.E.: Eutelsat vs musk

The brilliant policies of those two buddies who took over the White House have shaken up the stock market a bit, but not everyone is crying about it. Check out this European stock, Eutelsat, from a company that could be considered a Starlink competitor.

The situation is fluid and uncertain, but a more or less significant capital flight from America to Europe seems likely.

Veeam Legend and VMware vExpert reloaded

Veeam Legend and VMware vExpert reloaded

With a bit of pride and a whole lot of imposter syndrome, I’m bragging — or maybe confessing — that for the first half of this year, I’ve once again been welcomed among the ***vExperts ***and 19 (nineteen on the whole Earth!!) Veeam Legends.

It’s a bit of a turbulent time, full of uncertainty at work, in the family, and in the world. Hoping to stay in both clubs for a little while longer!

CloudIBR: Cloud DR for Veeam

CloudIBR: Cloud DR for Veeam

Being a Veeam Legend has many advantages. Among them, interesting products are available for testing and learning.

Thanks to Wasabi, which offers me 1TB of storage for backups, I was able to test CloudIBR— a simple, automated system for creating a cloud disaster recovery (DR) site, provided that you use Veeam as your backup software and a cloud repository like Wasabi.

Setting up CloudIBR is incredibly easy. You just add the repository following super simple instructions — even for an old-school sysadmin like me who’s not exactly “cloud-native.” Then, you configure the backup encryption key and define some network settings, such as the IP of your on-prem gateway, subnets, etc. If needed, you can also whitelist your public IP for secure connections.

Veeam critical vulnerability CVE-2025–23114

An important security update is to be planned shortly, because of a critical vulnerability found in many Veeam products.

So, if your Veeam Backup & Replication deployment is protecting AWS, Google Cloud, Microsoft Azure, Nutanix AHV, or Oracle Linux VM/Red Hat Virtualization*, *update ASAP.

S.E.: Active Electrical Cable and CRDO

S.E.: Active Electrical Cable and CRDO

Active Electrical Cables, compared to che classical DAC, have active devices embedded in them, to achieve better performance and power savings.

Read the Wikipedia article to learn more about them. It seems they are used especially in AI dedicated datacenters.

There is a company, CREDO, which is involved in these new technology, and they are having good performances in the Stock Market: maybe it’s worth to have a look at it. And, at your own risk, make a bet.
